Directions to the Professor Shigekawa Laboratory

Tsukuba Express Line

After exiting the ticket gate at Tsukuba Station of the Tsukuba Express Line, go right to Exit A4 and up to the ground level. Get on the “University Loop-line On-campus Bus” (clockwise, departs about every 20 min) at Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal 6 and get off at “Dai-San Area Mae”. It takes about 10 min (for counterclockwise rotation, it takes about 20 min). G Building stands to the left of the 13-story building in front of the bus stop.

JR

After passing through the ticket gate at Hitachino-Ushiku Station of the JR Joban Line, go right (or left if you get off at Arakawaoki Station) to the bus terminal. Get on the Kanto Railway Bus bound for “Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo” (direct bus, departs about every 15–20 min) and get off at “Dai-San Area Mae” (JPY 560). It takes about 40 min. G Building stands to the left of the 13-story building in front of the bus stop.

Highway Express Bus

Get on the Highway Express Bus bound for “Tsukuba Center” from Yaesu South or Central Exit of Tokyo Station (JPY 1250) and get off at the last stop. It takes about 90 min from Tokyo Station to “Tsukuba Center”. Then, get on the bus bound for “Tsukuba Daigaku Chuo” for about 10 min and get off at “Dai-San Area Mae” (JPY 260). We can pick you up at “Tsukuba Center” if you call us in advance (81-29-853-6469).

Car

F Building (School of Science and Engineering), where our laboratory is located, is in the north area of University of Tsukuba.

Note) Only cars with a parking permit can enter the parking lot. Please acquire a parking permit from the attendant in the small booth on the left immediately after entering Kaede Dori (or spots marked red in the map).

For a detailed campus map, refer to the map of the School of Science and Engineering (the following is a supplementary explanation of how to get to the Professor Shigekawa laboratory.)

  1. From Joban Expressway: Get off the Joban Expressway at the Sakura Tsuchiura Interchange Exit.
  2. Go west onto Route 354 and then turn right onto Route 55 (Gakuen Higashi Oodori) (map of vicinity of interchange).
  3. Drive further north along Route 55 for about 5 km, and turn left at Shibasaki Intersection on Hiratsuka Dori (map of intersection of Route 55 and Hiratsuka Dori).
  4. Then, drive straight and at the first intersection (Daigaku Koen Minami Intersection) turn right. Drive north along Keyaki Dori.
  5. Follow the broad Keyaki Dori to the north where it becomes Kaede Dori. You can also turn left onto a narrow road immediately after you enter Keyaki Dori; however, this road is difficult to find.
  6. On the campus roads, there are many speed bumps near crossings. Please drive safely.
  7. When you enter Kaede Dori from the north, you will find a large parking lot on the left; which is unavailable for visitors. Drive slowly further along Kaede Dori.
  8. You will find a bus stop in front of a tall 13-story building (F building) on the left.
  9. Turn left immediately after the bus stop to enter the campus.
  10. Parking is available in the visitors’ parking lot near the T junction immediately after the turn.
  11. F Building is located nearest the visitors’ parking lot. Room 3F412 on the 4th floor is Professor Shigekawa’s room.
  12. Before visiting Room 3F412, visit the guard room on the 1st floor of G Building, which is located north of F Building, to receive a parking permit and place the permit on the dashboard of your car, where it will be clearly visible from the outside.
